Phone photo dump

We enjoyed the beautiful fall weather at the park last weekend.

Willow had her second day of her preschool ballet/tap class today. This was her first time getting her shoes actually fitted!

My little tap dancer

And my little goofball...
We've been blessed by our neighbors who are letting us borrow these bikes until we move. We've definitely added some miles to them!

My heart overflowed with joy watching 3 families of kids play together in the culdisac. We've never had that for our kids where we've lived before and it's truly a blessing!!

Owen's First Day of "Preschool"

Here's our big boy ready for his first day of "school" (and kudos to Daddy for sending his picture to me at school [and trying to get him to hold the "First Day" sign like Willow] since I'll never get to see them off for their first day...ever...sniff sniff). He'll be attending a local Montessori school in the mornings 3 days a week. I think he'll enjoy being around other kids, exploring with different toys, and learning to listen to other adults. Daddy and Willow dropped him off this morning and they report that he did great. When they picked him up he was eating his lunch, smiled for a second, then burst into tears. Poor kid was probably just overcome with everything new and different and didn't know whether to be happy or upset.

Willow's First Day of Preschool

Willow Libby had a great first day of preschool! She's been used to the "school" routine having been to preschool last year in a school setting, but we were proud of her for being confident this morning as she unpacked her bag and walked in to class surrounded by her peers in tears. We're excited to see what she'll learn in Mrs. Whitlock's class. As a fun sidenote, Mrs. Whitlock lives in the same neighborhood as Kim and Chad (our temporary residence) so we actually saw her talking with a friend in her driveway as we walked back from a neighborhood friend's house the evening before Open House.

Owen: 17 months

Here are a few of Owen's favorites these days:

Favorite toys: trucks, balls, books (still quickly)
Favorite books: any lift-the-flap (especially books with trucks), any book with holes, "This is My Hair"
Favorite foods: hotdogs, fruit, crackers, Gogurt, other people's breakfast, anything dipped in Ranch
Signs: more, please, all done
Words/Sounds: mama, dada, "dah" (dog), "duh" (duck), ball, go, wawa (water), woah, bye, (Dada and Gramma claim that he's said "no" but I'm not going to believe it until I hear it myself [followed by making him say "yes" 1,000 times])

Owen is all-boy these days. One of his favorite activities is to stand up on the couch and "timber"/freefall off onto the cushions. An equal favorite is pushing his trucks. He's also getting better at stacking blocks, as well as putting bristle blocks together. He's getting faster at running, will turn around in circles, and enjoys clapping for himself.

He's shown interest before bathtime in sitting on the potty like Willow does. The first time he sat on it he ended up discovering his "boy parts" and was pretty disturbed by it. He attempted to find the best way to see them (bent over with his head practically touching the floor) for the rest of the evening while the rest of us couldn't stop laughing. The poor boy was traumatized!

We have officially given up on Owen taking a morning nap. Thankfully his afternoon nap is a bit longer than it used to be - now typically a little over 2 hours. He's had a rough time at night the last month, which could be due to being in a new house. His top two canines have popped through and the bottom two are not far behind, so that is likely a factor too. Maybe we should just give up on the idea of sleeping through the night until his 2-yr molars are in too.

Owen seems more and more like a big boy as he becomes more capable of following directions more and listening. He also can get his needs/desires across using his signs or walking to the refrigerator for milk, walking to the door to play outside, etc. Since our move, Owen has been sitting in his high chair at the table eating off a plate, rather than being beside the table eating off his tray. I think he's enjoyed the change (I love when he reaches for our hands to pray before eating dinner) and he's done well, with the exception of pushing off from the table with his feet (argh!).

Owen still adores his sister. He is beyond patient with her playing rough with him (I never would've guessed she'd have such a desire to wrestle with him!) and he can't stand when she's sent to her room to calm down. Owen also adores Alli. He is typically very gentle in petting her but his high-pitch squeal of excitement often scares her away. He gets very excited about dogs too, but is a bit more wary since a friend's dog jumped up and knocked him down a few weeks ago.

Owen will be starting at a local Montessori school in the morning 3 days a week beginning next week. We are excited to give him an opportunity to play with other kids his age, explore, and learn to listen to other adults!

This is Owen's way of saying "Where'd it go?" and "I don't know" (usually after being asked, "Where's Alli?")

Our goofball trying to lick every drip of Ranch off his plate:

First Hike

Since Chris and I spent most Mondays during our time in Denver hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, it's been disappointing that we haven't explored the Appalachian Mountains more (I blame it on teaching!). We took advantage of Labor Day off to take the kids on their first hike. It was a perfect little .75 mile hike along a stream to a little rock slide, with nice weather and an enjoyable picnic to follow. The kids did great and we're sure to have a repeat experience in the future!
(no, this didn't last long)

Willow was right at home hiking along the trail!

Don't be fooled! The water was COLD!

Owen checking out the ladies.

Yes, the boys did brave going down the rock slide!
