Quotable Quotes

This post is loooong over due (especially since I'm laughing at some of them I'd forgotten since writing them down!):

Owen (who has struggled with dinner for over a year now): What are we having for dinner?
Chris: Bowtie Chicken Pasta, peaches, and bruschetta.
Owen: What did you say before 'shetta?
Chris: Bru
Owen: I don't want bru!!!!

When putting on pajama shorts after having worn long pajamas for a long time:
Owen: I can't get my sleeves down.

Willow has been graduating herself to using our regular silverware rather than the kid ones. She often refers to the regular silverware as a "mommy spoon" or "mommy fork."
Willow: Do you want me to give Owen a "daddy fork" since he's a boy?

After Willow told me about a movie they watched at school:
Kristen: Did you watch that at recess?
Willow: No, in fact, we watched two.

As they dropped Willow off at school:
Owen: Have a great day Melonball!

Owen on the new porch swing:
Owen: This is a nice place to sit with an apple.

Owen: Is it play time after bath time?
Chris: No buddy, it's bed time after bath.
Owen: And then stories, songs, climb into bed, and go to sleep like a big boy?
Chris: Yes

We've been doing our best to teach the kids not to talk over each other, which is especially a struggle at the dinner table.
Owen: Can you stop talking now?

Owen (looking at the jet pack): This is sooooo coool! It has buttons and a light. And you can see people in it!
Chris: Yeah buddy, you can see your reflection in it.
Owen: Yeah! You can see my flection and your flection, and you can see Superman's flection (holding it up to his Lego Superhero book). This is so cool!

Chris (grunting while wrapping up the Christmas tree to put it back in the box)
Owen: What's wrong Daddy?
Kristen: The tree is giving Daddy a hard time.
Owen (to Chris): Did you think it was going to be easy?

Owen (avoiding me leaving his room at bedtime): I forgot to tell you sumping...

or

Let's pretend it's not bedtime.

Willow: When my hair falls over my eye like this, I feel like I'm in college.

Willow (before going to a sleepover at church): I want to see my friends' cycles (bedtime routines).

Owen (while I scratched his back): I like that behind me.

Owen (saying a bedtime prayer): "...and that my friends will talk nicely and have energy..."

Kristen (at bedtime): Who would you like me to pray for Buddy?
Owen: There are so many choices....

Owen (playing): ...and God said, "Go in peace."...

Owen: I can't turn off my human fire (humidifier).

Owen (when asked if he wanted to do "Just Dance" on the Wii): Is that where you move your move-its?

Owen: If 10=11, then what comes after 100?

Owen (trying to get a Lego off)
Gramma: That can be difficult Buddy!
Owen: No, it's ordinary.

Way back in July when Chris and I were going to return from our anniversary trip and Willow was helping Gramma get the "bubbles" out of the clean sheets on our bed:
Willow: I can't believe it's the day Mommy and Daddy come home! We survived the week! We survived the week with the vampires taking care of us! (They had read "Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots")

Chris: We eat peppermints and spearmints...what do you think ornaments taste like?
Willow: We don't eat spearmints...that's what scientists do (experiments).

Owen (listening to my music in the car): This isn't music, it's just noise.

Owen: I love my Antic-arctic Lego set (Antarctic).

When playing superheros:
Kristen: You should call Spiderman to come wrap up the bad guy.
Owen: But I don't have any spiderman dot com's on my phone!

Owen's two favorite responses lately: "No! Never!" or "Yeah, sure. Got it."

When Owen got to this picture in his Star Wars Lego set directions he said it meant "Don't throw balls at kids who are reading their Lego directions."

Quotable Quotes

I've gotten worse about writing the quotables down. Here are the ones written down (from a while ago!) plus a few recent off the top of my head. I should just always carry a notepad and pencil with me these days with the quotables Owen's tossing out daily!

Owen: "Are you finkin' what I'm finkin'?" (aka "thinking")

Owen (after hearing a girl fussing at gymnastics): "Her mother's frustrating her."

Owen: "We don't have more time to waste!"

Willow: "I want to be a singer. Not the President. Just a singer."

Owen (after Gramma told him that her mom had 5 kids before having Aunt Sarah, who just turned 50): "Nonsense."

Owen (after watching Gramma try to jump rope): "That's too hard for Gramma."

Owen (to another kid at the Chick-fil-A playground): "That girl is my sister. She lives at my house."

Owen: "I'm a super waker-upper."

Willow (regarding her new swimsuit coverup): "It looks like it has Willow written all over it."

Owen (regarding his new socks): "They look so cool and spiffy!"

Owen (after using the potty): "I have to put this away." (aka flush)

Owen: "Ladies and gentlemen. Gather around! I have great news! The zoo is closing!"

Willow (sitting in her own seat at the movie theater): "I'm really grown up!"

Owen (trying to avoid looking for a specific Lego by himself): "My body's giving me energy to not find it."

Owen: "Rapoose and lapoose are opposites."

Owen (in the car while Chris and I were talking): "I don't like this game 'talk talk talk' back to each other."

Willow (after watching a DVD in the car): "Can you push MENU to get us back to extra futures?"

Owen: "Just a minute ago smugglers snuck into the United States and got into a boat. They're sinking and we must save them!"

Quotable Quotes

I'm not sure if it's being home with the kids for the past week+ or if they're just extra hilarious lately, but they're full of quotables:

Owen: "There are happy batteries in this!"

Owen (playing with Dusty and friends): "We have to ebacuate!" (aka: evacuate)

Owen (to Mama): "Can you help spread his 'pellers out?" (aka the "propellers" to his helicopter toy)

Willow: "My predicament was right!" (aka: prediction)

Willow (regarding Owen's donut): "You know he just wants the frosting, right?"
Owen: "Yep! It's true!"

Owen (regarding a sticker): "I put it on Lillow's door for safe keeping."

Owen (curled up in his bath towels following bathtime): "Oooohhhh....So snuggly...."

Owen: "...(jibber jabber)...buuuuut....(jibber jabber).....buuuuuut.....(jibber jabber)....buuut..."

Owen: "Drinks!" (instead of "Cheers!")

Quotable Quotes

Owen: (in the car screaming after just having been perfectly happy)
Mama: Buddy, I can't help you unless you tell me what's wrong.
Owen: (still screaming)
Willow: What do you want Owen?
Owen: (still screaming)
Willow: That's not an acceptable answer.

Willow (looking at a new gymnastics leotard): "It's not Willow-style."

Owen snuck into the bathroom this morning right after I got out of the shower before I had a chance to get clothes on and said, "Why don't you have your jeans on?"

Owen (playing Hide-and-Seek): "16...17...18...19...20. Ready?"

Owen (jumping over a puzzle): "I'm a daredevil!"

Owen (playing with his excavator in the sandbox):
- I've got some work to do.
- This is a big trench.
- We have some emergency repairs.

Owen (doing my hair): "Look sideways....look upways....look downways..."

Mama: Owen, do you want to go upstairs with me?
Owen: Yep, let's go see what's happening to Willow.

Owen (for just about every pause between thoughts): "Welp..."

Owen (at dinner): "It's my turn to talk!"

Owen (while being tickled by Mama, Dada, and Willow): "You guys are killin' me!"

Owen (after covering my eyes with  my hair): "Your eyes are nowhere to be seen!"

Willow: 5 1/2 years old (and quotables)

Can she really already be half way to 6 years old??? Willow surely is growing into quite a young lady. When I truly step back and look at her, first of all, she's a giant, and second of all, she's hardly a little girl anymore. Here's a summary of Willow these days:

* While many of the things we make for dinner are not her favorites, she does a great job of eating enough to be considered a "good dinner" so she can have a treat (her true motivation). It gives me flashbacks to my childhood when I see her close her eyes and plug her nose while she takes a bite of something she doesn't like. Her favorite dinners are pesto or alfredo on pasta (not a big fan of red sauce), breakfast for dinner (though no hashbrowns), and tacos. Her request for breakfast is usually dry cereal (Honey Bits lately).

* In the last few months Willow has started praying at dinnertime. It took her a while to feel confident enough, but we're super proud of her! She's very thoughtful in her prayers, often listing off all members of our family. Last night when I asked her who she wanted me to pray for at bedtime, she listed all members of our family, Mrs. Bray (her teacher), and a student from her class mentioning that "she's now on medicine!" (I'm sure the girl's parents are "ecstatic" that the class knows her child is now on medicine!!).

* Willow's doing great in Kindergarten. Her teacher had wonderful things to report at conferences recently about her good behavior and academics!

* Willow has been doing well with gymnastics and swimming. This week there were only 2 of them swimming instead of the usual 4 so she knew at the end of class she was going to jump into the deep end twice instead of just once since there was one other time with just two kids in the class. When Ms. Dayna told them it was just the two of them that day, the first thing out of Willow's mouth was, "We get to jump in twice today!" She's really gained a lot of confidence in the pool this fall!

* Willow still really enjoys having books read to her. At night we now have her read one to us and we read two to her. I have books from school that I bring home that she enjoys and her teacher sends home a book each week as well. Her favorites lately have been holiday books we have out.

* Willow hasn't napped for a couple years now, but has "rest time" in her room while Owen naps (seriously...this mama needs her own naps on the weekend!). She gets the iPad for 30 minutes, then Disney music on Pandora while she plays in her room. She sleeps well at night, usually asleep by 8:00 (depending on evening activities) and waking at 6:30 for school. Half of the time she's awake on her own by 6:15 but on the weekends doesn't really "sleep in" past 6:45.

* She has become quite the artist lately, impressing us with her drawing and coloring. We tried a Pictionary-type game today since she was able to read many of the words on the card. It was fun to see her confidently draw some of the objects without getting frustrated (baby, jellyfish, rain).

Here are some of her quotables lately:
- "I think my earsight is going bad."

- In the car:
Willow: "I've never seen a Cheetoh chair."
Mama (confused): "What are you talking about?"
Willow: "The song just said, 'She's got a ticket to ride a Cheetoh chair.'" ("She's got a ticket to ride, but she don't care.")

- After a drawn-out conversation with Owen about how he needed to eat his dinner with us so we could start our movie and he wouldn't miss out on the beginning (this happens ALL the time on Friday nights lately!):
Mama (exasperated): "I'm not going to bend over backwards to remind you to eat your dinner Buddy."
(long pause)
Willow: "You don't need to bend over backwards Mama. You just need to turn your head and tell him."

- In the car:
Willow: "Do they allow clippings at your school Mama?"
Mama: (thinking through the multiple meanings of clippings....clippings in football...newspaper clippings...) "What is a clipping?"
Willow: "When someone takes skin off of someone else."
Mama: "You mean, like a student taking skin off someone else? Or a teacher taking skin off a child?" (thinking...."Surely neither is happening, right???")
Willow: "Like a teacher taking skin of a student." (long pause while Mama panics) "Like when the skin is sticking straight up."
Mama: "Ooooohhhh....like a hangnail? Are you asking are teachers allowed to have clippERs at school?"
Willow: "Yeah."

Willow: Quotable Quotes

In the Denver, CO area last weekend we drove past a large M on a mountainside that was lit up at night. I told Willow that it reminded me of the star on the mountainside where we live. She then said that at Christmastime they light up the star in red and green. When I doubted her, she said, "Just trust me on this one, ok?"

We were at a fun park around Denver that had a quick-paced stream nearby. When we were walking over to check it out, Willow asked, "After we go to the babbling brook, can we go back to the playground?"

Willow and Owen were playing in Willow's room at Nana and Grandpa's house and Owen took the pillow off her bed. Later Willow announced, "Since Owen stole my pillow, I took the idea of Owen sleeping in my room and dumped it in the trash in my brain."

Willow: Quotable Quotes

Willow's quotable quotes posts have been some of my favorites to go back and reread (Dec 2011June 2012Sept 2012Feb 2013April 2013). Willow has enjoyed looking through the blog books with me as they've arrived in the mail and even gets a chuckle out of some of her quotables from when she was younger. There aren't quite as many these days due to her being more mature and not pronouncing or using words incorrectly as much. She still says "lellow" for yellow if she's not thinking about it, as well as "hangaber" for hamburger which still makes us smile. We've joked about getting a video of Owen saying "Willow" and Willow saying "yellow" since they both pronounce them as lillow/lellow.

Here are a few from recently:

Mom: Your ponytail looks nice. Did Daddy or Gramma do it?
Willow: Daddy, but he struggled a little bit.
(insert public kudos to Daddy for succumbing to Mama's desire for color-coordinated outfits and for doing Willow's hair daily since she usually wakes up within 5 minutes of when I leave for school...and it was a truly impressive ponytail, by the way!)

"Owen is fond of his trucks."

At the doctor's office Owen was putting up quite a fight against the doctor looking in his mouth at a sick visit. Willow simply advised him, "Just open up your mouth like you do when you brush your teeth." Such a good big sis!

We were in the car driving back from PA during Christmas break. We (adults) usually need a reason to stop after "naptime" (in quotes because we never get a good nap on long trips) for a snack/treat. The kids had gotten a bag of cracker-chips to share and they were doing a good job of sharing them with Chris and me as well. When there were just a few left Willow said, "If you want any chips, Dada, you're gonna want to get them now!" Consider yourself warned =)

Willow and Owen have been super-sweet in giving each other hugs lately. When we were in PA, Willow was hugging Owen and shouted, "Gramma, you're gonna wanna see this!" She sure knows that Gramma loves that she loves her brother!

"Nana, did you know my ballet building is glued to a pizza place?"

Willow: Quotable Quotes

Mommy: You're silly.
Willow: No, I'm regular.

Willow: When Owen is 3, I'll be 6.
Mommy: That's right, but I don't want you to rush through life.
Willow: Then I'd be dizzy!

Willow: You have the (baby) gates closed and we like to run around.

Willow: I don't have any extra cash. (and when asked what cash is, she could tell me)

Willow: What is this green stuff on my biscuit? (part of the seasoning in the pseudo Red Lobster biscuits)
Daddy: Yummy
Willow: It's not called yummy, Daddy.
(and Willow is not called Gullible)

Willow: Quotable Quotes

Here are some of my favorite sayings from Willow in the last few months (that are written down so I can remember...):

On the way home from church, unwrapping her dum-dum: "It says this lollipop is made out of baskets." (root beer flavored)

On a different day driving home from church with her lollipop: "I'm getting sooner to the stick."

(No, we're not loading Willow up on sugar after church...they give dum-dums for being good listeners in Sunday School and for knowing their catechisms.)

Willow refers to gravy as "potato sauce."

Chris typically gives Willow a couple choices for lunch. One day she said, "Dada, can you choose for me?" It can be exhausting having so many important decisions to make as a 3 year old!

I added cayenne pepper into our enchilada soup according to the directions, which we've made many times without. At dinner Willow said, "My mouth feels like it's burning." She loves salsa, but that was definitely the spiciest meal she's had!

I tried a Pinterest recipe for biscuit and gravy casserole this weekend. While eating it, Willow said, "I like it so much I could burst!" (I guess this balances out my mistake with the cayenne pepper the night before?!)
