We took a family trip out to Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Tetons had been a "bucket list" item for me, and we wanted the kids to experience Yellowstone as well. We did a one-way trip from Jackson Hole, WY to Boseman, MT spending about 3.5 days at each park. There's always more to hike and explore but we felt like we fully experienced both parks in the time we had there. Flying into Jackson Hole, we went over some mountains. When Owen was in the spelling bee in 5th grade, he got eliminated by misspelling the word CIRQUE (which none of us knew how to spell either!). It's one of those things that he'll never forget now!! While flying over the mountains, we saw our first cirque:
The Jackson Hole airport runway definitely has the best view!
The kids learned the difference between an elk and a moose, and that they lose their antlers each year! There were multiple antler arches around town.
At the visitor center we saw the names of the mountains in the Teton range. Mount Owen has a cirque!
The view from the visitor's center, where the kids got their national park books stamped:
I was SUPER excited to get stuck in a bison jam (when bison cross the road, stopping traffic). Our first stop was the Chapel of Transfiguration. I was SUPER excited when I saw this red section on the navigation. Unfortunately it was NOT our first bison jam, it was a short line at the entrance to the park :)
We had dinner at Dornan's (east coast time) with an incredible view! The temperature while we were in the Tetons was a low of 45 and high of 75 each day and sunny. We LOVED the dry air!
A beautiful reflection of the Tetons:
We stayed in a mountain view room at Jackson Lake Lodge. It was pricy but the room was great, the view was incredible, and staying in the park helped us avoid a lot of lines and get to sunrise locations faster. This is a view from the lobby of the lodge. We highly recommend the huckleberry milkshakes at the restaurant!
