It's a long story, but we finally had Owen's "18 month well visit" at 21 1/2 months. Here were his stats:
Weight: 30 lb (91%ile)
Height: 36" (97%ile)
Head Circum: 19.3" (78%ile)
Owen's biggest accomplishment this month is knowing where all 50 states go on the US puzzle. Chris said that he put it together 7 consecutive times last night while Willow and I were at the church's music time. It never seems to get dull to him! He still will say "Dis?" to ask the name, then does his best to repeat the name of the state. Our favorite is 'Ssippi, but 'Homa, 'Sota, 'Mama (Alabama), 'Yoke (New York), and 'Kota. Another obsession lately has been shutting doors.
He's starting to use more phrases. The most common (but not a fav) is "No want it." "(insert food here) please" is also common. He can say Nana, Joseph (one of his best buddies from preschool), and will refer to Grandpa as "Pa." Our favorite new word, which he says often in the correct context, is "cool." He has a hard time with the /f/ sound, so fish becomes "pish" and food becomes "pood."
He continues in "feast or famine" at dinnertime. We've decided that he prefers a 6:30 dinnertime rather than when the rest of us eat at 5:15. He ate one bite of rice last night at our dinnertime, then devoured all of his food just before going to bed at his dinnertime. He's still not a fan of vegetables (corn used to be a guarantee and no longer is). His favorite breakfast is still someone else's. For some reason cereal in someone else's bowl tastes better than in a bowl of his own.
Owen still loves to read books. I got him a few truck books out of a Scholastic book order, which he loves. Henry and Mudge and Clifford are his favorites these days. He'll also point to the Dr. Seuss bin and ask for "Mama" ("Are You My Mother?"). Nana said that the other morning he looked through his entire top shelf of books on his own, perfectly content =)
I know I'll regret posting this, but he's done really well sleeping the last two nights. We'd been in a horrible 2 month trend of getting up, mad at the world, at 4:30am and not consistently going back to sleep. This morning he didn't get up until 6:30 and yesterday was 6:15. I'm not sure what to do with myself when I'm the first one down to eat breakfast! The best thing about it is that he's woken up HAPPY and TALKING! Good job buddy!!
