Owen is 5!!!! He had a great day bringing treats to school, spending time with Gramps and Gramma, opening plenty of Star Wars/Lego gifts (and choosing to put his X-wing set together instead of having iPad time!!), and choosing to eat out at Golden Corral for dinner.
Owen's world was changed when he saw a man go put frozen yogurt on top of his brownie! He was determined to do the same!!
There's always room for cake after Golden Corral, right??? Happy birthday!!
There was no question that Owen's party was going to be Star Wars themed this year! Thankfully Pinterest had lots of ideas for me!! We had a great time!
The weather is always questionable around this time of year. Last year it snowed, so you just never know!! I was watching the weather with a close eye ever since it popped up on my 10-day forecast. The low last night was 36!!! The high was 64 so our hope was just that it would get "warm enough" by 11:00, which it did! It was perfect weather for being outside (but it's always good to have a backup if we were all trapped inside, hence the coloring pages just in case!!).

* Owen.loves.StarWars.Legos. I'm not sure he knows anything else exists. It's incredible how many characters he knows and facts about it, especially since he's only watched two of the movies. He had a strong love for Legos before Star Wars came into his life, but sometimes it truly feels like it's the only thing he plays. He does love to play outside still and his favorite thing (besides the all-time favorite trampoline) is to play hockey, but he has to be the goalie. If it's not hockey or the trampoline, it's playing zoo or Star Wars. He and Willow always have the potential to play very well together for longer periods of time now, but he's usually the one to stomp off when he gets frustrated. Hearing them laugh together is just about the best thing in the world though!!
* Owen is in a major growth spurt right now and is eating like crazy!! Thankfully our dinner time battles seem to be over thanks to dropping his afternoon snack, but he's often "hangry" at bedtime even if he ate his plate of food at dinner. His favorite breakfast foods are dry cereal (shredded wheat, Honeycomb, Cheerios), oatmeal, or egg-on-toast. His favorite food for lunch is peanut butter sandwiches. He doesn't have too many favorite dinners but is doing better overall with eating dinner. His favorite morning snack is an apple and favorite drink request is juice.
* Owen doesn't take naps any more but falls asleep easily when he gets into bed around 7:45. We're not sure exactly when he wakes up because he's not allowed out of bed until 6, or out of his room until 6:30 on weekdays. There are some mornings when I'll go down for breakfast around 6:00 and his light isn't on yet, but many mornings he's actively playing in his room already.
* Owen has enjoyed being involved in swimming and Ninja Zone classes this year. We tried music time on Wednesdays at church, but he really battled going, so we gave up that. It's nice to have that time with him alone on Wednesdays now, so it's worked out. We've always thought he'd enjoy playing baseball someday with how much he loved hitting the ball when he was younger. He hasn't shown much interest in baseball for over a year now, so we celebrate any time we can get him to play. He's told us recently that he doesn't ever want to play on a team, but we do hear "absolute" comments out of him a lot lately.
* Owen seems to really enjoy preschool. He talks about playing with Kathryn, Rebecca, and Lily the most. He enjoys his teachers Mrs. Deeter and Mrs. Gates. He's most recently excited about the ducklings and chicks that they've been incubating at school. Owen is pretty introverted and takes a bit to warm up to new experiences, especially birthday parties! After about 30 minutes, he's ready to detach from my leg and enjoy spending time with his friends, though.
* Owen loves to make people laugh and will try the same joke multiple times if he gets a good reaction out of it (he gets that from his dad!!). He also, oddly, really enjoys being tickled on the bottoms of his feet...but doesn't laugh! He also enjoys having his back scratched. He's definitely our cuddler!!
* Owen can read 1st grade level books but goes through waves of interest in reading. Completing his hundreds chart to earn a Lego set motivated him for a while, but he's filled out the 3rd chart halfway and hasn't read for a couple months now. He does really enjoy being read to. He's really in to Magic Treehouse books right now, and Star Wars stories too of course.
