Beach!!

Our first beach trip with the Caldwells went so well last year that we decided to try it again. Same beach. Same house!! It was another successful week full of sun, laughter, sightseeing, games, and plenty of junk food! We made it to the beach twice and the pool 3-4 times. The weather was in the 70s, which was warmer than some days last year. The ocean water was still chilly though! The kids did a great job playing together and Hannah was successful on 1 out of 3 tries to stay in the same room as Willow and Owen. Their music and fan were just too loud for her ;)

It's just a short walk across the street to the beach!

The kids enjoyed getting their feet in the waves and looking for seashells. Owen didn't get dizzy in the waves this year! ;)

After last year's borrowed beach umbrella fiasco, we opted for a tent instead. It was great for providing a large shady area!

Can you spot the sand crab?

Willow and Chris braved the cold water to jump waves. She had a great time! Check out the slow-motion jump!

Thankfully no one got hurt running into a wall NOR threw up with the number of times they spun each other around!

After a quick downpour, the kids enjoyed playing in the puddles!

Hunter cracked us up enjoying "zerberts" on his belly by Uncle Chris.

We went back to the sand dunes on an overcast day. I think the kids view it as one big sand box!!

Everyone is within view, right??

Their tracks reminded us a bit of Family Circus cartoons!

The kids had fun racing down the dune. And again. Heck, the adults enjoyed it too! (Video credit: Willow)

We enjoyed an awesome local park again:

The kids enjoyed the pool 3-4 times over the coarse of the week. They fell asleep easily every night and no one got sunburnt, so we'll call it a success!!

Chad's homemade french fries were THE BOMB!!!

Our 2nd trip out to the beach must've been at high tide because the waves were huge! A ton of surfers were out so it was fun to watch them!

The balcony made for a fun "water balloon toss."

We couldn't miss out on a trip to Duck Donuts!!

We made it to the aquarium again but had a different experience since it wasn't as crowded as last time. Here are the kids' "fish faces."

This is what nightmares are made of!!!!

The kids "experienced" a hurricane in the safety of a tube:

We visited the Bodie Island Light house again. This time we were able to get tickets to climb to the top. Unfortunately Hunter wasn't tall enough :(

Due to the structure of the stairwells, only one person can be on a flight of stairs at a time. The kids did great announcing when they got to the landing, so the next person would know it was their turn on that flight.

Hannah did great too!!

Hunter and Chad are the tiny speck on the middle of the red sidewalk. Poor Hunter went running for the lighthouse when he saw all of us waving to him from the top. He also had the saddest sad face ever when we got back down. Poor buddy.

Chris must've asked the magic question because the park ranger at the top of the lighthouse opened a locked door for us to be able to see the light and hear more of the history of the lighthouse!

The kids did really well playing together all week! I think their favorite was playing chase!

We checked out a new ice cream place. I think next time we're all getting what Chad got!!

The adults played Skyjo three nights and had a good time. The boys insisted on driving Type-A Kim a little nuts with their 4x3 grid card placement though!!

The "beach week puzzle"

One time I was working on the puzzle and Hunter came up:
Kristen: Hi Hunter! Are you coming to help with the puzzle?
Hunter: Yes!
Kristen: Are you going to help or harm?
Hunter: Harm

He did get a hand on it on a separate instance and took about half of it off the table! Eeekk!

Dreaming of the beach on the drive home!

On the drive home we stopped by a pick-your-own cherry orchard that I just found out about. Unfortunately it's 2 hours away so it's not too close but the cherries were super yummy!!

Owen said he wasn't smiling in this picture because he wanted the picture to be in the tree (below). Haha

*** SNAPCHAT WARNING (for Chris) ***

How my face would look if we stayed at the beach for longer than a week eating junk food!

This picture doesn't seem to do justice to how much Hunter LOVED the dog filter!!
