Owen - Baseball

Owen moved up to the Pee Wee/"Kid Pitch" baseball league this year. It was quite a different experience than t-ball since 7-8 yr old kids were pitching and catching, which made getting a hit much more difficult and really slowed down the pace of the game. Most great hits in the games were off coaches' pitches (after a kid pitched 5 balls). Owen was excited about the idea of Chris coaching his team so he signed up to be an assistant coach but was placed as head coach (you know how those things go!!). Of course their team was the Yankees and about half of the team had played together last year. He had two good guys as assistant coaches and they made a great team! Chris really emphasized sportsmanship to the kids as well as learning more about the game and having fun. If I have my "stats" right, Owen got on base twice by being hit by the pitch and got on base 3 times by hitting singles (2 were in his last game!). He made it all the way around to home plate once (last game!). Despite striking out so many times, he kept a positive attitude the entire season and stayed focused well during the games. You could always find him in "ready" position!

The benefits of having your dad be the coach is that he has catchers gear you can try out in the backyard AND the key to the batting cages for a couple extra one-on-one sessions!

(Mama had to catch her breath when Dada started talking about Owen getting a cup!)

This was a page from church during ball season:

Lookin' cool in his shades!

Owen was lucky to have such a large cheering section at so many of his games!

One of Willow's teammates had a brother on Owen's team so they had fun hanging out at some of the games.

3 generations of Yankees fans!

Owen got to pick out the trophies for the team too! Here's what Chris said about him at the banquet.
