We enjoyed meeting up with the Caldwells to take a tour of Dixie Caverns. I wish I'd taken a video inside because the pictures don't really do it justice. We had a great guide who was very knowledgeable and patient with the kids. It was really interesting to learn more about the stalactites and stalagmites and even see a few bats!
The black dot on the side of the cave is the bat (pretty tiny!!):
That stalactite MIGHT reach the stalagmite in a few hundred years ;)
We climbed up and down lots of stairs to check out the cavern.
This stalactite broke off, so the kids got to hold it to see how heavy it is.
They called this the Mirror Pool. With the light on it only looks 4" deep (which is it) but with the light off, it looked 4' deep because of the reflection. Pretty neat!
They call this the Wedding Bell. People even get married there!
This pillar broke and since they thought it played an integral part in holding up the caverns, they rub it and make a wish for the caverns to stay standing each time they walk by. So we did too ;)
Maybe the kids will go back in 25 or 50 years and will be able to see if these are any closer to touching ;)
Would you have ever guessed by looking at the mountain on the left that there was that secret cavern inside???
