Willow really enjoyed being her class's SCA (Student Council Association) representative last year. It allowed her to be a part of the Veteran's Day assembly as well as attend a few field trips. She shocked us when she decided to run for an officer position for SCA this year because officers have to give a speech in front of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! She decided to run for SCA Secretary and did a great job creating her 3 posters for the campaign.
Alli helped too!
She wrote out her first draft of her speech then Chris did a great job of walking her through editing it to be a bit more focused on giving reasons she'd make a great secretary.
There were a "few" things to cross out (like, your mom being a Reading Specialist...):
We were grateful that both sets of grandparents were able to attend, we were able to get Owen out of class to watch, and my principal let me slip out of the building to attend as well (Chris came too). We were impressed by ALL of the speeches given! The kids were so well-composed and one student even memorized his speech! Willow had come to my school a few days before her speech and she practiced into the microphone so she'd be a bit more comfortable with that. She had a few props too. We hadn't realized she'd be holding the microphone but she adapted to it like a champ!
We thought she did a great job!! She was so much more composed and confident than I ever would've been at 10 years old in front of 200 people!! Although she wasn't elected, we were sooooo proud of her for trying and being so dedicated to the preparation for it. While she was understandably disappointed, we know she learned a lot in the process aaaaaaand we just found out she was voted in as a class representative! Congratulations Willow!!
