Aunt Sara and Uncle Murph have been volunteering at the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, so we took the opportunity to head there for Spring Break with Gramps and Gramma. It was a chilly, rainy few days, so not very well suited for getting in the water, but the salty air and sound of waves is always refreshing. We loved having so much time with Sara and Murph too! They knew all the best restaurants, museums, and even gave us the behind the scenes tour of the buildings at the lighthouse. Sara even got permission for the kids to wear the lighthouse keeper uniforms! How fun!We headed to the aquarium on the rainiest day. We'd been to it before, but it's always fascinating to see the animals!

We couldn't arrive at the beach without going to see it! The kids and I braved the rain and wind to catch a glimpse and get our feet sandy for a few minutes!
The rental house had the BEST couch!! I wish we had room for one like it in our living room. 
We went to a museum that taught us about the boys who watched the shoreline, like the Coast Guard before there was one. I wonder if those boys felt like Owen looks about watching out!

The lighthouse is being renovated so we weren't able to climb the stairs to the top but it's still fun to learn about and see!
There'd been a lot of rain before we arrived, so many of the side streets were flooded. House guests were having to park where they could, then walk through water to get to the houses. It was discouraging to see the workers bulldozing back the dunes along the highway every day. Seems like tireless work to do every day, year round!
We had a sunnier day that we spent a little time at the beach!
Sara helped us find the perfect house that had a bedroom on the main level (very rare at the beach with most houses on stilts!!) with only a few steps to get in. The 3 bedrooms upstairs worked out great for the rest of us!
