Rocky Mountain High...Colorado!

We just returned from a fabulous trip to see Nana and Grandpa in Colorado. It's amazing how much worse the humidity feels upon returning to VA after being in the dry CO heat. Thankfully both kids adjusted to the time change coming and going very well, and everyone (including those around us) survived the flights. On our 2nd flight out there the 3 seats behind us were empty, so Owen and I enjoyed the space to spread out making it easily the best flight of the 4. Here are some of the activities that lasted maybe 20-30 seconds each:

Willow and Owen loved playing in the inflatable pool outside! Owen didn't care if he was in a swimming suit or not...

Willow jumping on the trampoline that her mama earned in elementary school. All Owen wanted to do was walk as close to the edge as possible to give all adults on "edge duty" a heartattack.

Owen's first Olathe sweet corn. There's none like it!
Nana and Grandpa spoil the kids rotten with new toys!

Good morning!
Willow is really in to Magic Tree House books lately ("Jack and Annie books" she calls them). One morning she sat on my lap for AN ENTIRE BOOK while Owen napped.

We enjoyed the community pool a couple times. Willow was confident on her own (3' deep) and even put her face in the water a few times and kicked herself around on a paddle board too. Owen was confident on his own, yet the adults around him were not, typically staying between 1/2" to 1" away from him at all times =)  Going up and down the stairs was his favorite.

Willow and Owen each made a fun stone using a take-home kit. After a few attempts at getting Owen's handprint, we opted for the footprint.

Willow loooooved this fold-up play house. Daddy looooooved coloring the house =)

Playing in the fountains downtown:

We headed up to the cabin for an overnight stay. After Grandpa came in from getting the second plate full of hamburgers/hotdogs he said, "You will never believe this!" There was a BEAR!!! In 30 years of having that land, we've never seen a bear. Kim and I would even go out as kids on our own to play in the woods and never saw ANY wildlife (maybe we were too loud?!). He appeared to be rather underweight and young (maybe last year's litter?). He was not deterred by Chris and Chad's attempts to scare him away. He did his damage to the grill, then wandered very close to the cabin (even coming up to the back deck!) before wandering off just to return an hour or so later to wander around again. Needless to say we brought "protection" with us on our walk the next morning!

Looking down from the loft window onto the bear standing on the back deck.

(The bear is in front of the Yukon's tire)

Our make-shift security system in case the bear tried to invade while we slept. Surely the door knocking over or pushing the chair would give us enough time to prepare?!?

Owen resembling his mama at about the same age.
 Mountain watching:

Playing with my Barbies!!

(The bear took this picture for us)
One of our favorite activities growing up at the cabin was to hike to the "White Mountain" (not so much a "mountain" as much as a "hill") and climb our way to the top. We DROVE to the White Mountain in order to save our energy (aka oxygen) for climbing.

Kim, Chad, and myself enjoyed a 6.5 mile hike on the Grand Mesa that we would hike occasionally growing up. The views never cease to amaze me and remind me of the beauty of God's creation.

At the peak!!

At the crest of the mountain. Watch your step!
We enjoyed an afternoon at the County Fair. We saw the farm animals (including the sheep wearing "leotards" below), rode the Ferris Wheel, saw a show about wolves, and ate yummy fair food. I think Willow is going to start expecting a Ferris Wheel everywhere we travel now.

Owen's entertainment on the ride home from the fair.
Willow and Owen both enjoyed riding and playing on Grandpa's mule (aka 4wheeler).
