Basketball!

Willow has shown her first interest in playing on a team sport this winter - basketball! And we've even lucked out and 2 of her friends from school are on her team! She missed the first practice due to Disney so we bought her basketball and started practicing in the backyard. I tried to dust off my basketball brain from middle school years of playing and remember some drills for her to practice. Videos will come but she's already come a long way with dribbling!

We went up to the school's basketball court to attempt to shoot:

I told her to use her legs more (HA!!):

Thankfully they lower the hoops for the 8U girls!

She fell once while I was defending her as she dribbled, then she missed one pass and got bonked in the face with the ball. Both caused her to tear up a bit but it was a good opportunity to remind her that it's going to happen and going to be ok =)

She did great at her first practice and kept her confidence the whole time. She even made her first basket with the whole team watching (and 3 of us cheering!!) while she and the coach demonstrated their next drill. I was beyond thrilled for her!

It cracked me up to see girls doing cartwheels in the middle of practice. It also made me chuckle when they were playing 5 on 5 (which I hadn't really gone over with Willow fully) and Willow was watching a teammate to see what to do and since the girl was standing (on the wrong side of the court) picking at her nails, Willow stood and picked at her nails too. HA! She never touched the ball the whole time they practiced 5 on 5, but she had a smile on her face the whole time. We'll have to gather more evidence to see if she'll end up being more aggressive than her mother was in basketball!
