It hard to believe Willow is already 8!! Gramma pointed out this evening that she's halfway to driving age! Eeek!! She had a great day of opening presents in the morning, bringing donuts to school for her friends, having lunch with Gramps and Gramma, then enjoying Dairy Queen for dinner/dessert. We look forward to celebrating her birthday this weekend with a few of her friends. It'll be our first party outside of our house!! I'm not sure what to do with myself not being consumed with party preparation every evening!!
Willow didn't have many ideas for what she wanted for her birthday (maybe a sign of contentment??). She seemed to like the Lego Elves set, puzzle, game, and books we got her. We'll head with her to Build-a-Bear for the first time too!
Willow and her friends had a good time at a local pottery studio! It was weird to have the party out of the house, but definitely made it a less stressful week preparing since there wasn't much to prepare!!

* Willow continues to be an avid reader! Her favorite books lately are any chapter books involving dogs! She also enjoys Geronimo Stilton, A to Z Mysteries, and books about movies she's seen (Moana, Zootopia, etc.). She can even be found enjoying some of the Star Wars books that Chris gets at the library for Owen! She's loved reading the Wondla series with Chris lately.
* Willow has enjoyed swimming, music time/GAs at church, gymnastics, and basketball/softball this year. Sometimes it feels like it's bordering on too much!! She's done with swimming lessons now and we'd thought about putting her on a swim team this summer but think we'll miss too many practices/meets to make it worth the cost. When she got her end-of-year paper at gymnastics which recommends your placement for class the next year, she was recommended for the Level 1 team. After discussing it with her, we think we'll try it for a year to see how she likes it. She'll go twice a week (instead of once) and we're told that it's a little "less fun, more focused." We'll see how that goes!
* On an "at home" evening, she gets into bed by 8pm and is up at 6:30 for school. She's rarely awake when I go in to get her. On weekends she enjoys staying up until 8:30 to read, then reading in bed when she wakes up in the morning, so we never really know when she gets up. She usually wanders downstairs by 7:30.
* Willow is a good eater and eats dinner with a good attitude even if it isn't her favorite. Her favorites are definitely tacos and alfredo. She still requests peanut butter sandwiches or ham and cheese for her school lunches. She loves most types of crackers for snack. For breakfast she usually chooses cereal (Peanut Butter Cheerios) and has just recently started having milk with her cereal!
* She and Owen have done a great job of playing together lately. They have their moments, but it's pretty precious to see them play Ninjas or Star Wars together, or enjoy the treehouse in the backyard together. Maybe they're finally realizing that this whole sibling thing might be ok! Outside of reading and playing with Owen, Willow enjoys art and science projects. She gets a fun science kit in the mail monthly as a gift from the Caldwells and loves them!
* Willow continues to do well in school. She's been on the All A Honor Roll all 3 quarters of the year so far and has won the large chocolate bar for the most reading on her grade level as well. At the first quarter awards assembly they announced that she'd already met the year's AR goal for 2nd grade.
