We've been thinking outside the box for summer activities this year due to the pandemic and a lot of fun places being closed or maybe not being the safest at this time. Thankfully OUTDOORS isn't closed and we've found some new and old places to explore!

Owen has been drawing and drawing and drawing some more!! He's drawn 123 Clone trooper masks in one binder alone and that's not counting other notebooks that have drawings!
I enjoyed having ladies from our Life Group over for s'mores and socially distanced socializing ;) We tried s'mores on fudge stripe cookies. I'm not saying I would ever turn it down, but my favorite so far is still adding the Reese's cup instead of chocolate bar.
Our favorite blueberry picking orchard had been honest about picking being "diligent" due to a late frost and lack of rain last fall (and the curse of Corona and 2020 in general!!!). They'd also been having trouble with birds, despite their best efforts in scaring them away. Well, it was definitely diligent picking but practically non-existent. My standard of "dark enough to pick" really stooped low and the berries practically looked red in our bucket. The day after we went, they ended up closing since there simply weren't enough to pick. Here's hoping for a better 2021 season!

We have two small blueberry bushes in our backyard that are just getting old enough to produce more berries. Last year we might've only had 5-10 berries but this year we've picked two handfuls and have some more green berries to come!
We enjoyed a nice picnic with friends from church at a local community college's arboretum. It had lots of shade and cool paths, plants, and rock gardens. They even had a children's maze through hedges!!
This looks like the perfect place to enjoy a good book or lunch!!
An indoor aquarium and petting zoo opened at a mall about an hour away. Teachers and their families get in free (woop woop!) so we ventured out there to check it out. All of the feeding experiences were closed due to COVID so we just checked out the animals on exhibit. We had a good time but think it'd be a different experience when it's open back to regular.
Willow and Owen have had their 2nd golfing/sewing lessons. Owen learned putting (here too) and chipping. Willow made some masks!
Willow and I enjoyed making homemade ice cream sandwiches!
So, the reality of the pandemic is that it's still out of control. On July 1st Virginia went to Phase 3 of reopening and numbers have spiked (again) since then. The numbers of cases and deaths are overwhelming! Schools are starting to pose plans for opening this fall but it's really a lose-lose situation for all involved!!
